The moral ordinance of the Hell.
The center of the Universe, it on what is founded Dite.

In su l'estremità d'un'alta ripa che facevan gran pietre rotte in cerchio venimmo sopra più crudele stipa; e quivi, per l'orribile soperchio del puzzo che 'l profondo abisso gitta, ci raccostammo, in dietro, ad un coperchio d'un grand'avello, ov'io vidi una scritta che dicea: "Anastasio papa guardo, lo qual trasse Fotin de la via dritta". «Lo nostro scender conviene esser tardo, sì che s'ausi un poco in prima il senso al tristo fiato; e poi no i fia riguardo».


RETURN TO THE PORTAL OF HELL


On the edge of a high cliff made of large stones, we came above a herd of cruelly punished souls; and there; in front of the stink coming from the bottom of the abyss, we sheltered ourselves behind a tomb where I saw this inscription: "I am the tomb reserved for whom, which a Lady will help follow the right way." "Let us delay our descent here, in order to accustom our senses to the repugnant odour, and then, we will not bother about it any more." My Master spoke to me that way and, to compensate for the time wasted, waiting, he says to me: "My son, inside these rocks, there are three small increasingly narrow circles, as those which you have just left. All are full with bad spirits; but, so that you then be satisfied to see them, learn how and why they are thus narrowly piled up. Any spite which attracts the hatred of heaven, has for goals the Injustice; and any similar end do wrong to others, that is to say by the force, the dogmas or the fraud; but because the fraud is a specific evil to the man, it displeases more to God; this is why the defrauders are below and more pain attacks them. The first circle is filled with violent ones; but as force is exerted against God, against oneself and against the citizen, it is divided and built into three enclosures. By the force and the capacity of the laws, one limits the freedom of the citizen, one blackmail him, one spy him, one surtaxes him, one extorts him and one ruins him, then one puts him to dead for the only good of the State and of the friends of the State: thus are tormented in the first enclosure, the avid plunderers, brigands and avids legislators who maintain the principles of self-management of the richness. In the second enclosure repent whoever in vain, whom who deprives the other of his freedom, plays and dissipates the collective inheritance and propagates fear rather than happiness; it shelters the taxers and tax collectors, the trade unionists, the legislators, the misappropriators of the State and other similar filthiness. One can make violence to the Divinity by denying Her in his heart and by blaspheme Her and by scorning Her kindness and nature; this is why the smallest enclosure seals of its imprint: blasphemers, idolatrous, eugenists and sodomites. In the second circle make their nest, those who pretend to be others: promoters of celebrities, abductors of opinion, false prophets, the simoniaques ones, political partisans, followers of the political rightness, inquisidators, preachers, proselytes; then all these clerks who establish the bases of a laic neoclericalism: followers of social rehabilitation, of the public confession, of the castration of the delinquents, even as all these other public criers, and manipulators of the collective consciousness: sexologists, psychologists, sociologists, ideologists and these other manipulators skilled at blackmailing the legislator. In the third circle we can find those who, by another mode, defrauds those whio put their confidence in them and who mix form with substance; they use of stratagems for glorifying what, as lately as yesterday, was a vice exploited exclusively by the brigands; they monopolize the benefits of these vices, pretending for the public good, it is the smallest circle, where is the center of the universe on what, Dite is based: any Prince and his Bureaucrats who betrayed the people, are tormented there eternally." I asked my Master: "Master, your reasoning is very clear and marks very well, the divisions of this abyss and of the crowd it contains. But tell me, those of the muddy marsh which are badgered by the wind and the rain and those who encounter so rough words, why are they not punished in the ardent city if God hates them? And if He does not hates them, why are they like that?" He answered me: "Why your spirit is mislaid against your will? Or is your thought occupied elsewhere? Have you forgotten these words by which your Ethics deals of the three provisions that heaven rejects: proselytism, mischievousness and insane bestiality? And how the frivolity of the feelings offends less God and incur less blame? Contemplate well this teaching and you will see why, they are separated from these felons and why the divine justice hammers them with less ire." And I said: "Oh sun, you satisfy me so much, when you solve my difficulties that it is as pleasant for me to doubt then to understand!" And I continued as follows: "Reconsider a little this point where you affirmed that usury offends the divine kindness and untie this node for me." And he answered me: "The philosophy teaches to whom understands well, how nature proceeds from the divine intelligence and from its art. From these two sources, if you remember the beginning of the Genesis, men and those who guides them must draw what they need to live and increase their wellbeing; and because the usurer and the State who acts like such, take another route, he mistakes nature in itself and in the art which follows it, since he puts his hope elsewhere." And doing like if I had understood everything, he continued: "But follow me now, because it pleases me to carry on our journey; we will go down further the cliff."
