CANTIQUE III

On my couch, at night, I sought for whom my heart loves. I sought for him, but I did not find him! I will then rise up, and I will go through the city. In the streets and on the places, I will seek for whom my heart loves. I sought for him, but I did not find him! The guards have met me, those who make the round in the city: "Did you see whom my heart loves? " I hardly have passed them, when I found whom my heart loves. I seized him and will not release him until I let him enter in the house of my mother, in the room of whom who conceived me. I beg you, girls of Jerusalem, by the gazelles, by the hinds of the fields, do not wake up, do not awake my love, before the hour of his good pleasure. What is this there which assembles from the desert, like a column of smoke, vapor of myrrh and incense and all exotic perfumes? Here is the litter of Solomon. Sixty valiant knights surround him, elite of the valiant knights of Israel: all experts in handling the sword, veterans of the combats. Each one has the sword at his side, fearing the surprises of the night. King Solomon has made a reef tackle out of wood from Lebanon. He made of it columns of silver, baldachin of gold, the seat of crimson. The bottom is a marquetry of ebony. Come and contemplate, girls of Sion, king Solomon, with the diadem whom his mother has crowned him at the day of their nuptials, at the day of the joy of his heart. at the day of their nuptials, at the day of the joy of his heart.
